The Center

Kagyu Samye Dzong Dublin is Ireland’s oldest established Buddhist centre and part of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Our Spiritual Director is His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje, and we operate under the guidance of Lama Yeshe Rinpoche.

Founded in 1977 by a small group of Irish students of Akong Tulku Rinpoche, the centre was originally based in the old railway housing estate in Inchicore. It soon began hosting visits from esteemed Buddhist teachers. In 1993, the centre moved to Kilmainham, providing more space to expand its activities, offer regular practice sessions, and welcome visiting teachers.

In November 2023, Samye Ling appointed Ani Yonten as the resident nun of Kagyu Samye Dzong.

The Centre would not be what it is today without the dedication of countless volunteers who have established, maintained, and operated it for over four decades. Equally vital are the donors and supporters whose generosity has provided essential resources.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to the growth of Kagyu Samye Dzong Dublin and warmly welcome anyone who wishes to join our community of practitioners.

We are open to individuals of all faiths and worldviews, aiming to assist them in their quest for deeper spirituality and a more peaceful lifestyle.
